Most of my clients run their own businesses, and many of them ask me how they can reach more people. The most effective methods of doing this involve finding ways to engage with people. By providing value in their lives. By taking care of them and providing solutions to their problems. By making them feel like they are getting to know you, which shows them that they can trust you.
Most businesses are based on finding solutions to problems, but how does one reach people who have not yet identified what their problem is? Blogging and social media are great ways to do this. I will write about social media in a separate post, but today I want to focus on blogging.
What is a blog?
A blog is a type of web page that you can update regularly. You can publish posts or articles on your blog in a similar way to how magazines provide articles for their readers. There are many different types of blogs. Some blogs are like personal journals. Some are about interests or hobbies. Some are about travel or culture. Some are about music, fashion, or style. Some are about news or politics. Some of them are run by individuals, while others are run by companies.
Whether you are an individual or represent a company, blogging is a great way to provide value to your readers (potential clients) while building a solid online presence.
What to blog about?
As I mentioned, there are many different types of blogs about a wide variety of topics. You need to find a topic that is relevant to the people who you wish to attract.
To find these people, you can ask yourself the following questions: What type of people do you want to reach? What are they interested in? What problems are they facing in their lives? How can you provide solutions to their problems?
This will help you to identify your niche, which will give you an indication of what content will provide value to their lives.
How frequently to blog?
Depending on the nature of your business, this can vary. Some people blog daily, while others blog weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. There is no set rule about how often to blog, but the key is regularity. If you blog on a regular basis, this will give people reason to return to your website. These people may even browse through your services and bring you new business, but this is not the goal of your blog. Your goal is to create value to your target market. When you provide value to people, business will follow.
Where to blog?
There are a number of options available for setting up a blog. Blogging platforms like WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger, and many others are becoming increasingly popular. If you are blogging about a hobby or about your personal interests, these platforms are a good starting point.
If you want to run a blog for your brand or your business, I would recommend registering a domain, subscribing to a hosting package, and installing a platform like WordPress. This process takes only a few minutes and if you do not want to go through these technical details yourself, most web designers or developers would be willing to set this up for you.
In closing, if you are looking to get more traffic to your website, I would recommend setting up a blog. Find a subject that will provide value to your potential clients, and start writing. Once you get into the habit of blogging regularly, it can be a lot of fun and is also rewarding in the long run.
